CHAPTER 17

New York, Now

Both of them stayed silent for a long time after he had finished his tale. Kate had the feeling that her head would soon explode with questions, that were triggered by this surreal story.

»So The Flood with Noah, the ark, all of the animals and such was real?«, Kate asked. »Well, it didn‘t happen exactly like it was described in the Bible, but it is true in its core,« he retorted smiling.

Kate‘s eyelids fluttered. The agents of the sedative pills were being placed over her shaking nerves like a blanket. Heavy Sleepiness covered every other feeling, and her mind refused to take in any more news.

»I think, it is better if I tell you the rest of my story tomorrow. You look so tired, and you have experienced enough for today.«

The young woman yawned. »Yes, I can barely concentrate anymore, I feel like I‘m drained. Just one thing I have to know. What was really up with your children? Were they real humans or supernatural beings? Are they evil by nature or did they deviate from the right way while growing up? Is their otherness the reason you have told me the lie about the genetic disease to get me to have an abortion? Or do you fear, that the child could hurt me while giving birth as severely as it happened with your Lea?« His expression hardened. »Our children looked like humans, moved like humans, did everything else exactly like humans, but they were not humans. They were neither physically nor psychologically disfigured, they were only missing any ethical conscience, and they were possessed by the will to rule over others. They physiognomy is one of the humans, but their physical power and beauty exceed any average. Only shortly after their birth, they show a physical anomaly, that differentiates them from human beings.«

»And what kind of anomaly is that?«

»Well,« Sam swallowed, »they are born faceless.«

Kate groaned loudly and bit into her clenched fist. Sam tried to grab her hand, but she shoved him away.

»It is not as bad, as it sounds right now, it‘s just for one second after the baby leaves the mothers womb, after that it looks like any other child.«

»Well, if that is not good news.« Kates stomach convulsed, her numbness was blown-off. »There surely is more to that; you are hiding something from me, Sam. Did you know from the beginning, that your son is not like you and his mother? Was the, I will call it evil inclination, visible immediately?«

He stood up and walked to the little window, that provided the kitchen only sparsely with daylight. For several seconds he just stood there and looked outside, his arms crossed in front of his torso. His inner fight was conspicuous. Abruptly he turned around but avoided looking at Kate.

»In the book of Eunoch, that belongs to the apocryphal papers, the secret books, they are described as follows:

The Nephilim, that were the huge and powerful, originated from the conjunction of gods sons with
